The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has initiated a critical phase in the BDD Chawls redevelopment project at Worli, Mumbai, by starting the relocation process for eligible tenants. This significant step paves the way for the demolition of the old, dilapidated structures and the construction of modern, spacious residential towers. MHADA officials have been working closely with residents to ensure a smooth transition, providing temporary accommodation in transit camps or offering rental compensation as per the agreed terms. The Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment is one of the largest urban renewal projects in Asia, aiming to provide around 10,000 new homes, including larger flats for existing tenants and additional units for public sale. The project will also feature improved amenities such as wider roads, open green spaces, community halls, and better sanitation facilities. The redevelopment is being carried out in phases, and the current relocation drive pertains to specific clusters identified for the initial stage of construction. MHADA has set up on-site assistance centers to address tenant queries and facilitate the documentation process.
